Hey, my friend, what is up? And welcome back to another episode of do life big. I'm pumped to have you here today. We are slowly getting back into our routine over here after the back-to-back hurricanes that hit our area, and so I am ready to rock and roll with this episode. And today we're going to be talking all about how to go from shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset. You know, one of the things that holds most people back is what they think is possible for them in their lives, and they determine this by what's been programmed into them to believe what is actually realistic. And so what you believe is possible for you becomes this glass ceiling, and that's what you need to break past.
You know, if you want to think about kids, if you have young children at home, kids are not realistic. They don't deal with realistic at all. They don't make decisions based off of what is realistic when they have an idea, or they have a thought that pops into their mind, or they have something that they want to do or they want to accomplish, or when you ask them about what they love to do, they're not held back by realistic thoughts or ideas at all. They believe anything and everything is possible. Everything is realistic to them. And so this is something programmed into us, and then we adopt it as true, and we believe it this whole scarcity mindset, right? We're not born with this. This is something that we just adopt over time, and we hear it from either it's from society or the people around us, from our teachers, and then we believe it to be true. And I think that the most successful people in the world are the ones who don't pay attention to what's realistic, and they don't limit themselves, and we limit ourselves because of what we think is possible.
So think about someone really successful that, you know, they're probably not realistic at all. They have the mentality like, Okay, I have this idea. This is what I want to do. This is what I want to achieve. This is what I want to accomplish. This is what's going to happen next, and we're going to make it happen. We're going to figure out how to make it happen. So working for the last 11 years now, mentoring people and even just chatting with just friends of mine, family, I can tell just by what they say, if they're living in a scarcity mindset or an abundance mindset. And the key is the difference between this one little word that they use or don't use, and it's either the word “or”, or it's the word “and”.
And life is not “or” life is “and” that is the difference, right there. Nowhere does it say that either you can have this or you can have that, right? 99% of the reasons why entrepreneurs fail is because of the mindset of that business owner. So if I want to give you an example, I think about the business that I was in a long time ago, and even the people that I work with, so many business owners stump the growth of their business because they think that they can either have a great business or they can be a great parent. They don't believe that they can do both. They believe that something is sacrificed. And that's a scarcity mindset. It's thinking I can either have this or I can have that, but I can't have both and like, where does this mindset come from? Right? Who says that you have to choose one or the other? Where did you learn that? But somewhere along the road, you adopted that belief system, and you took it on as your own, and you didn't even second guess it or question it. You automatically believed it to be true. What you should be thinking is, I'm going to run the best business I can and I'm going to be an amazing parent that's having an abundant mindset, that's moving away from the scarcity mindset and moving into abundance and thinking I'm going to evolve myself into the best version of myself, so that both of those things that I want will exist in my reality at some point, right it's being aware of that. I may not have these two things right now, not yet, but I am going to have both, because I'm going to learn, I'm going to evolve, I'm going to grow, and one day it will be my reality, one day, I will be able to pay off the debt and take my family on a vacation.
And so this is another reason why you need to set boundaries with your business or your work and have actual business hours, especially if you're in the online business space, set your times for work, and then when you're working, you're going to give it 100% with no distractions. You're going to be the best business owner that you can be during that time. But then when the work is over and you go back to your kids and your family, you're going to give them 100% of your attention with no distractions from your work or your business. See, there's no reason why both of those realities can't exist, of being an amazing business owner and a fantastic present parent or a present spouse. So abundance is thinking “and” that you can be or have both. So it's not like, okay, I can either have a great relationship with my spouse, or I can become a millionaire, it's “and”. I can have a great relationship with my spouse, and I can become a millionaire, and I can build a successful, thriving business. So maybe you can think back and remember where your “or” mindset came from. When did you start to adopt this? Maybe you witnessed it happening in your own home growing up. Maybe you saw your father working all the time, and then years later, your parents get divorced, and your mom always said it's because he was never around. And then that was a story that you gave about why that happened, that you can't have both. You can't have a great relationship and build a successful business or have a successful career, and then you adopted that story, and that's where the scarcity mindset came from.
We want an abundance relationship. I'm going to have the best possible relationship with my spouse, and I'm going to be worth X amount of dollars or and I'm going to build a business worth X amount of money, whatever it is. But you've got to evolve over time and grow, you have to figure out how to make those two things that you want become a reality. And everything in life is figureoutable. So you might be thinking, right like, How can I fix the car and take my family on a vacation? How can I build a successful business and be a present parent? If you're thinking, Oh, I don't know if I can do it. I can't really do both. That's too much. That's scarcity.
That's the scarcity mindset coming in. All of the realities that I want to exist in my future will exist. I just need to know, and I need to figure out how I need to evolve myself to make this a reality. What do I need to do within myself to make this happen? What would you need to change within yourself to make this happen? What did you do differently? What are some things you had to let go of to be able to allow for those things to exist in your future as your reality? You don't need to choose one or the other. The universe is abundant. If you look around, nature is everywhere. Nature is abundant. Scarcity only exists in the human mind. Look at how many stars and how many galaxies there are out there. Look at apple trees, for example. They don't just make one apple and think, Oh, I wonder if I can maybe produce another apple here on this tree, right? An apple tree actually can produce up to 800 apples in a season. That's abundance. And so what I'm saying is abundance is natural. It's all around you. It's scarcity that exists in your mind when we were taught to be realistic, to not put ourselves out there and then that is a glass ceiling that you will continue to hit for as long as you have that kind of mindset, abundance is the truth and scarcity is really the lie. It's the lie that we tell ourselves every single day, every time, where we choose one or the other and think that we can't have both. That is our mind flipping itself to go against everything that the universe is. And the thing that's crazy is we believe this lie, and some of us believe this lie our entire lives. You know, I still feel it pop up every now and then, right? I wouldn't be human if it if I didn't, but I'm aware of it. And who knows where the heck this came from, but it came from something maybe you heard growing up. Money doesn't grow on trees. We can't buy that. And then we believe those lies for the rest of our life. You know, oh, you can either be happy or you can make a lot of money, but you can't have both. You can either be successful or you can be a great parent. So try to make your scarcity radar just a little bit better. Be a little bit more aware. And when you notice it, come back in. Try to ask yourself.
How can I make this better? There's a different thought and belief pattern. When you start to step into abundant thinking, it's a different feeling. It doesn't feel heavy, it doesn't feel restrictive, it feels like, Oh, my God, anything is possible. So why don't I just go create anything I want to. It's scarcity that's programmed into us and not on purpose, but it's from society, people around us, teachers, people telling you, Hey, that's not realistic, like, let's get real. But it takes awareness to notice when you slip into scarcity. So you ultimately have to ask the question, do you trust that the universe has your back, or God, or whatever it is that you believe in? Do you believe that God has your back, that the universe has your back, that whatever it is that's out there is there to support you and wants the absolute best for you? If you do, the abundance is all around you, because abundance is the natural state, and it's your scarcity mindset that restricts what you feel is possible, and what you feel is possible is what you're going to work towards. And if you don't feel abundant, or if you don't see abundance, then it's going to be really hard to work toward that. So when you start to get the feeling of either or, I just want you to just stop for a second, and I want you to be aware of that, and I want you to start to switch to and it's not this or that, it's this and that, and that is the life that I'm going to create. So I hope that you enjoyed today's episode. That's how you can go from flipping your mind from scarcity mindset to a more abundance mindset, just those one little just that, one little word switching from saying I can have either this or that to I can have this and I can have both of those things.
So I hope that you enjoyed today's episode. You know, I love you. I think you're awesome, and I will see you the next time. Bye.
