Hey, my friend, how are you today, I hope that you are doing fantastic and welcome back to Do Life Big. I've got a great episode here for you today. So I'm so excited that you're here tuning in.
I bet that you are someone who really wants to create something more in your life. Or maybe you're someone who wants to create something new, or you want to improve something in your life. And maybe you have been trying to create that thing that you want, but it's just not happening. And you can't seem to understand why? Well, this is what it boils down to every single thing in life comes down to your attention, where your attention is, what your belief about where your attention is, and then being able to manifest it into your life so that it becomes a reality for you.
I'm going to share with you a little story here to just explain how it really makes all the difference in the world with where your attention is in terms of improving your life and really getting the result that you want that you're looking for. So about three and a half years ago, when my dad was diagnosed with AML is a form of cancer. It's leukemia, it's acute myeloid leukemia. He always knew and always said, even before he got diagnosed with AML, that if he ever got cancer, it would be a war and it would be a war that he would win. So he already had that mentality.
In his mind, his attention was already on the positive outcome of what he wanted, if he ever did get cancer. So when he did get cancer, he already had that mindset of I am going to win this war. So I want you to think here, we all want to create something different in our life, we all want something more or better. Otherwise, you wouldn't be here listening to the Do Life Big Podcast, right? You're here for a reason. It's just that maybe you haven't quite created it yet. But you know, that you want to. And so whenever this is the case for us, we have to really look at where our attention really is. Sometimes we really think and believe that our attention is on what we want. When in all reality - It's focusing on what we don't want.
When my dad was wanting to get better from cancer, where was his attention? What were his thoughts? What was he thinking about? Where was his focus? What were his beliefs about surviving cancer, he had the thought in his mind, I am going to be cancer free. I am going to win this war. I'm thinking about walking out of this hospital, spending time again, with my family and with my wife and my children, and my grandchildren.
He saw himself in those moments with those people that he loved. He saw himself doing the things that he was doing before he got diagnosed and had to spend months on end in the hospital. And he believed and knew, no matter how hard that journey was, that it was a war that he was going to win. And he did and that is how he manifested a life without cancer.
Now listen, of course, obviously, it made all the difference in the world that he was in the best hospital that you could be in getting taken care of by the best doctors around up in Massachusetts. That made a tremendous difference. However, having that mindset when you're going through something like that, where your life is on the line makes all the difference in the world. And so not only did he have that belief in himself, but the doctors believed in my dad, and our whole entire family believed that he would beat cancer.
We have to be careful what we believe in where our attention is, you'll hear me talk about this topic a lot. And you might be thinking, okay, like, I've heard this before, Kathi, why do you keep sharing the same thing over and over again? But just because you've heard something, doesn't necessarily mean that you know it. And if you don't know it, then you can't live it. That's the reality of it. That's the truth, you can hear things over and over again. But if you don't truly know it, then you can never actually really live it. And I want you to write this down, you are where your attention is. Write it down, and have that as a reminder, every single day, because whatever you have in your life right now, whatever you don't have, is actually where your attention is. And if you don't have what you want in life, then you need to put your attention to what it is in life you want to create.
For my dad, his attention was on being healed, it was on being cancer free, he was thinking these thoughts of I will be okay, I'm going to make it through this, I am going to walk out of this hospital, I am going to be cancer, he had that his attention was on that. And when you have your attention on the outcome that you actually want, then your body just kind of follows suit with where your attention is. So the only reason why you don't have it right now is because your attention isn't on it, you have to become the master of your attention.
This is one of the most important things that you will do in creating the life that you want to live is mastering where your attention and focus is. And when things come into your mind. Move it out of your mind immediately. If it's not serving, you don't be in such a rush all the time. When you have a thought come into your mind, you immediately get an emotion from it and a feeling from it. And if it's not a good feeling, if it's not a feel good emotion, and you know what's not serving you, you need to quickly shift your attention to something else that's going to be more serving, that's going to make you feel more optimistic, that's going to make you feel better, you have to be responsible for that, for being aware to those thoughts that are going into your mind. Because you are where your attention is.
Some of us are just on autopilot, and are just going through the days blindly. And we don't even realize that we're spending the majority of our time actually, with a scarcity mindset operating from fear, focusing on what it is that we actually don't want. And your attention. And your focus with your attention can shift instantaneously.
For example, if I was driving on the way to school in the morning to drop the kids off, and then I went to Starbucks, and I was all excited and getting ready to get my cold brew that I always get, and somebody pulled out in front of me. Maybe I'd get mad. Maybe you've had that habit and you've gotten mad? Well, I'd be mad because that's where my attention is. It was on the person pulling in front of me cutting me off almost causing a car accident, right. So now I want you to just kind of think about this here for a second. How much attention do you put on your own personal self growth. I mean, this is something I've been working on now for about 9 / 10 years.
Here's the thing, a lot of us tend to treat our own personal growth, like people treat their religion for example. So I was raised Catholic, I went to Catholic school my whole entire life, we would always go to church on Sundays. And I remember feeling good being in that environment. On Sundays, I just felt better. I felt like I was becoming a better person. I felt like it was, you know, getting me closer to my faith. And this isn't true for everybody. But whatever it is, you can get the gist of it here. And maybe you can picture yourself in that environment to where you just feel better. Whatever kind of environment that is that you don't do daily, but you do it maybe once a week or not too often. But you do this thing. And you when you're in it and you're in that environment, you feel good in that moment. But then as soon as you leave church, or wherever it is that you're coming from, and you go out into the real world, and then something happens and it causes you to get angry or frustrated or disappointed or just annoyed whatever it is because you're out of that situation.
What we want to do is we need to really work hard on keeping our attention how it is when we're in that environment, every single day of our lives by being in control by mastering our attention. And we are responsible for that. When you want to grow, and you want to evolve, you must keep your attention there 24/7, you can't let things out of your control, consume you, you can't let things like what's going on in the world and bills, and the President's and all the news that you see, consume your attention, because then if you do that, then what it's going to do is it's just going to keep you trapped right here in your own little world. And when you're trapped, you have literally no awareness of anything greater, or anything that's could be better for you.
Your reality, will literally just live in that world with no changes. So it's really easy to fool ourselves. And this is kind of where we're at here where many people keep their attention, this is kind of how it goes down, right?
Maybe you might be saying to yourself, I really want to create more income, so that I can take my kids on a vacation, because we've never had the money to be able to do it. And I really want to be able to take the kids to Disney, so that they can experience the most magical place on earth. And I don't want to look back and have any regrets about it. But instead of focusing on, you actually getting that money, putting the money into your bank account, seeing the money that's in your bank account, when you log into your bank, on your computer, going and then buying tickets to Disney for you, and your whole family to go getting the the airline tickets and flying their landing in Florida walking into the hotel, seeing your kids walk into Disney taking pictures in front of the castle at Magic Kingdom, you don't let yourself see that. Because your attention is on what you're fearing. What you don't have right now, which is the lack of money, the fact that you don't have the money.
That's where people make the mistake, instead of seeing them having the money and seeing what that money is going to do for their family and for their kids. And the memories that it's going to create by taking their kids to Disney or wherever vacation for an example. You're thinking about what I don't want. And many people keep their attention there and what they don't want. You have to think about what it is that you want. And hey, listen, you know what, if you know what it is that you don't want, then you know what it is that you want, because it's just the opposite of that.
Stop thinking about how you don't have the money, that you don't have the money in your account that you're always broke, you will remain that way. Focus your attention on what it is that you want. The mistake that people make is focusing on what they don't want. So same thing for a minute. What is it that you do want in life? Right? What you really want, no matter how badly you think you want it, your attention most likely is not on that. If you're not really manifesting this into your life, it's because your attention is on what you don't want.
As soon as you can have that awareness to where your attention really is, like, as soon as you really know what you want. And you're aware of where that attention is, then that is the second that you start to create these things and they become your reality. That's how you actually manifest it into your life. And you can't just make anything happen. Just by like making it or forcing it to happen like you this has to be a process that you allow it to happen. It is a very patient trustworthy process where you just have to trust the process, right? And the secret is to have your attention on that thing that you want. But your attention is on it by knowing that it's going to arrive and you're in the process of receiving it is just kind of like a knowing that you have it's a done deal. It's on its way. It's not a matter of how is this going to happen. It's just a matter of when is this going to happen for me, right? That's the difference when you have that awareness and your attention is on what you actually want.
You have so much trust and faith in the process that you know that you actually receiving it or creating it or having that event happen or whatever it is, is inevitable. It's going to happen. It's just a matter of when's it going to happen. So think about what you really want in life right now.
If I was sitting down with you at Starbucks, and we were drinking coffee together, and I was drinking my cold brew a venti and I said to you, tell me what is it exactly that you want in your life? You might tell me what it is that you want or Maybe you don't really know what you want right now. Or maybe you might tell me what it is that you want. And you might say, but I just don't understand Kathi, why don't I have it yet. And if you think back to the beginning of this episode, is because your attention has been on not having it, you've been operating from a place of fear, and scarcity. And wherever your attention is, you will always get more of that, whether it is you say you really want or not.
So take a moment and think about what it is that you really want right now. And as soon as you say that thing out loud, I don't care where you are, whether you're probably driving in the car, now you've just dropped the kids off at school, maybe you're on the way, maybe you're on the way to work, maybe you're trying to get a quick shower, and right, maybe you're putting your makeup on and getting ready for the day, say it aloud what you want.
What is that immediate first internal dialogue that happens when you say that out loud? Where is your attention really at when you think about what it is that you are trying to create that thing that you really want. And what I am challenging you to do is I want you to take the next week. And I really want you to make sure that you know what it is that you want. If you don't know what it is that you want in life, that's okay. Just sit down and really just spend some time thinking about it, nail it down. And if you do know what you want, that's great, write it down. And think back and ask yourself at the end of the week, after spending all week long, a really knowing what it is that you want.
At the end of that week, I want you to ask yourself, where has your attention been in relation to that thing that you really want? Has it really bent on what you do want or hasn't been on? What you don't want to happen? Because your attention reflects the life that you have right now. Shift your attention to what you do want and have the knowing that it's already done. It's just like what my mentor said to me before? What if it's all rigged in your favor? What if you live every day like that, thinking that this is all rigged in your favor. And I want you to remember you are where your attention is.
Thanks for tuning in today. I'm so glad that I had you here. You know, I love you. I think you're awesome. And have an awesome day. Keep crushing it and I will see you the next time!
