Hey, my friend, what's up, I am so excited that you're here for today's episode of Do Life Big. I wanted to spend some time today just having a conversation with you about how powerful your beliefs and thoughts are, how they dictate all the results we currently have now, and the results that we want for our future. You know, sometimes we adopt these limiting beliefs about ourselves when were young, or maybe because someone told us them at one point or another during our life. And then we actually believed them to be true. And a lot of times, we've had these beliefs since we were younger.
There are also even a lot of times that you have these beliefs holding you back and didn't even realize that they were there. They had literally been there for years, keeping you stuck making you say things like, you know, this is just how I am or you know, this is as good as it's going to get, what you need to realize is that you can change these beliefs and thoughts that have been holding you back, you can disrupt your old way of thinking by being aware, that's the first step. By being aware, every time that you think something negative to yourself, that's holding you back and keeping you exactly where you are and preventing you from having the success that you want to have, you truly can reprogram your mind.
You start seeing the success that you want in life or in business, or whatever area it is that you're trying to grow in, I want to share with you guys a little bit of a story about how this has related to myself. And just recently too, because at the end of the day, you know, I'm a mindset coach too, and a mindset mentor, and I help 1000s of people. And I've had tremendous success by mastering reprogramming my mind and adopting a growth mindset. And I love it.
However, We all still have these moments where it can creep back in. And it constantly is testing us these little thoughts that we have in our mind. And you have got to be aware and notice them so you can catch them on the spot. So that you can continue seeing the growth that you want to see in your life, versus letting those negative thoughts and those beliefs dictate where you're going to go. You want to have the control. And so about, let's just say maybe like, three or four years ago, is when I started to kind of pack it on in terms of my health and fitness journey, right? I had been basically about 35 to 40 pounds overweight for a good solid three to four years.
It was so frustrating for me. Like I just plateaued at this certain weight. And I literally was not making any progress at all. I was working out every day. Like I thought I was eating healthy, you know, but it just wasn't seeing any progress. Have you ever had that happen? Right? Where like you're putting in the work, and you're not seeing the progress that you want to see? And you're like, dumbfounded by it. It's like why? It's just so aggravating, isn't it. So I started to adopt this belief system. And this thought process that was actually given to me by certain people just kind of saying little things like, hey, you know what, you're too old now, like, you're going to be 40. You have already had three kids like you've had a C section. It's just not going to happen.
It's not going to be as easy as it was to get back to where you were five years ago. It's just not possible. You're older now you just have to accept that you're getting older, and your metabolism is slower. And you're just not going to be back to where you were, and just just kind of deal with it.
And I really started to believe that because in my mind, I was doing all the things right. I was working out every day costing myself trying to eat as healthy as I could the majority of the time because I believe in balance, let's be real. And my clothes, were never fitting me any different. And it was just so discouraging. And so I started to adopt that belief system that you know what, I won't ever get back to where I was five years ago. This is just as good as it's going to get.
Because I didn't believe that I could do it, because I didn't believe that I wasn't willing to actually do the things that I needed to do to see the changes that I wanted to see in my health and fitness journey. So things like, stop picking up the kids food, like I knew I really shouldn't be eating the kids grilled cheese crust. But I was doing it anyway. Don't drink alcohol during the week, save yourself for like a Friday or Saturday night, I was just drinking whenever I wanted, who really cares about portion sizes, I wasn't really portioning anything out, eating later at night, closer to bedtime, not really tracking my water intake and making sure that I was drinking the right amount of water. So I stayed hydrated, those little things, right, I just I wasn't doing any of those things.
And so obviously, even though I was working out every day, the nutrition is most of it. Obviously, we all know this, your results, in terms of your health and fitness journey are like 85% What you eat what you put into your body. So I was never seeing much of a change, except for like maybe five pounds here or there, it would just be going up and down, up and down like a yo yo and it was so maddening. And like I said, this went on for like three to four years, until finally, when I turned 40 years old last December.
I made a decision, like on the freakin spot that this was going to be the damn year that I was going to get back into the best shape of my friggin life. I remember looking around and seeing people who were my age and even a lot older than me, and like freakin phenomenal shape. And when you see somebody else having success, and you're not, you should take that as an indicator that, you know, you can have the success to where's the problem. The problem was with my mindset. And so I looked at those other people. And I thought, well, what the hell like if they can do it, I'm freaking doing it. This is going to be the year that I'm going to get into the best shape of my friggin life. I made this commitment to myself.
I started to I started to change my inner dialogue. And the thoughts that I was telling myself and the story that I was telling myself. And I started to say things like, like I can, I am, I will, I am going to get into the best shape of my life, I am getting into the best shape of my life, I am seeing progress. I'm making small gains here and there, like what I'm doing is working. And it was because I changed my beliefs.
When I changed my beliefs about what I was capable of doing, then I was willing to make the changes that I needed to make to get the results that I wanted to get. I started not picking at the kids food and leftovers and things like that on and off throughout the whole day. I started making sure that I started every single morning with a huge glass of water before anything else. I started tracking my water intake. So I was making sure that I was having half of my body weight in ounces of water every single day. I made sure I was eating a ton of veggies, I made sure I was having at least 100 grams of lean protein every day, I made sure to not eat after dinner. Because it was just really just a bad habit of mine, I was never really hungry was just like a bad habit. And it was all these little changes over time.
I'm cutting to kind of close as we're nearing at the end of 2022. And my birthday is coming up in about one month from now. But you know what? I'm damn freaking proud because I am in the best shape of my life right now. Literally in the best shape of my life right now. And it's not because I did anything crazy or magical. But I wanted to share that story with you.
People who do follow my health and fitness journey, for example, they've seen this transformation that happened with me really hardcore over the last about five to six months. And they always asked me, What are you doing? Tell me what workouts are you doing? What are you eating? What did they want to know all the things that I'm doing?
I'm here to tell you that it's not the doing that's going to get you the results that you want. The doing will only get you the results that you want in your life. If you have your mindset, right, if you have the growth mindset if you're able to silence those limiting beliefs if you're able to reprogram your thoughts and your belief systems to more serving thoughts that will propel you to get you closer to where you want to be. Because guess what? I was doing all the things and I wasn't getting anywhere. And so I had to go back and look within first you always have to start with within look internally.
And then once you get that mastered, then you can start taking the action and start doing the actual things that you need to do to get the results that you want. But we all know people who are doing all the things and still not getting the results that they want in their life. And it's because they haven't mastered this piece yet. And they're letting their inner dialogue and their current thought process and blue system dictate the results that they're getting. And so if you're not happy with the results that you have right now, in your life, those results that you have right now are always a direct reflection of your thoughts and beliefs from the past. And so if you want different results, right, and you're not happy in some area, then you have to change your belief system in your thoughts that you have of today, so that you can change the results of your future.
I'm sure that you can relate to that, or maybe even something similar, popped in your mind, as I shared my story with you guys. But I know a lot of you have felt stuck. You're right, you've wanted a different outcome, but just can't seem to have the success that you want, right? I mean, I hear from people who say this to me every single day.
